Keepers Penalties
Draft/Waiver Wire pickup - Year one: The first year that you own a player begins your ‘ownership’ of that player.
Draft/Waiver Wire pickup - Year two: An owner may keep a player for one year, (the 2nd year of ownership) without penalty.
Draft/Waiver Wire pickup - Year three: The third year, he must pay an additional $5 (or 10% whichever is greater).
Draft/Waiver Wire pickup - Year four: The fourth year you must pay an additional $15.
Players cannot be kept for longer than 4 seasons. (i.e. Drew Brees was drafted for $59 in 2012, in 2013 he may be kept for $59, in 2014 he may be kept for $64.90 ($59 + 10% penalty), in 2015 he may be kept for $74 ($59 plus $15 penalty), in 2016 he must be released as a Free Agent.)
Waiver Wire Pickups
If the player was an undrafted, free agent and was a waiver wire pickup during the season, you may keep him at the waiver wire price you paid, plus $5. If YOU drop a player that you drafted, and then pick him up again on the waiver wire (FAAB) you will pay the previous year’s draft cost, not the FAAB cost.
Released players, retain their original auction value. Thus if an owner tires of Tom Brady after paying $50 for him at auction, releases him, and someone else picks him up, the $50 keeper fee will still apply. Player values reset only on draft day, or pursuant to a season ending injury. Thus preventing teams of dumping their studs unfairly. If a drafted player (or keeper) is released to waiver wire, and is picked up by a new owner, the keeper policy from the old owner applies to the new owner. So if the old owner was in his 3rd year of ownership, the new owner could only keep the player for an additional year.
In the case of a released drafted player that is later picked up on waiver wire, the keeper price will be the original drafted price OR the waiver wire price, whichever is higher.
Keeper Picks Deadline
All deadlines for keepers will be clearly stated by the league manager via email, with a reasonable amount of notice given to each team owner to meet that deadline. Out of a courtesy, the league manager can send reminders to the owners, however, this is not required. All team owners must submit their keepers either through ESPN (preferred method) or by emailing or texting the league manager. If the team owner fails to submit their keepers by the deadline the following penalties will incur:
First time offense:
If keeper is selected within 3 hours of the deadline, the owner may keep ONE player and pay a $5 fine.
If keeper is selected within 12 hours of the deadline, the owner may keep ONE player and pay a $20 fine.
If keeper is selected 12 hours after the deadline, that owner may not keep ANY players.
Second time offense:
If keeper is not selected by the deadline, the owner forfeits the right to keep ANY players.
Third time offense:
Find yourself another league.
*Note: the league manager reserves the right to access whether the delay was due to an actual emergency and waive the penalties in this instance.
What happens if I don't follow the above rules by the deadline?
If you select more keepers than you are allotted or you go over your allotted salary cap, the LEAGUE MANAGER will finalize your keeper selection at her discretion. And I doubt you will like the results.
However, if a player designated as a keeper suffers a season ending injury between the keeper deadline and the scheduled draft, that player’s owner has the option of either dropping him or selecting another player to keep.
Injured Reserve
Owners are permitted to keep players who were on THEIR injured reserve at the end of the season if they so desire. Same salary rules apply as regular players.
Traded Players
If you acquired a player through a trade this season, you may keep that player at this year’s draft price or waiver wire price plus $5 or 10% whichever is greater.
If you acquire a player through trade, the previous owner’s keeper history applies. For example, if Tom Brady was drafted by Team A in year 1, and was traded in year 3 to Team B, Team B can only keep Tom Brady for 1 additional year. No player may be kept for more than 4 seasons.
Money Exchange in Trades
If you wish to include budget money in a trade offer, you must contact the League Manager for approval first. This will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
